Day 513: Oscars and Rabbits

People dressed up like fortune cookies.

Black ties on a Sunday night.

Peeps.

What is going on?

Theme parties. Saturday night, the creators of "frizzleween" hosted a Chinese New Year House party. Some folks were dressed to impress in the styles of the the Chinese New Year (aka the forutne cookies), this year it is the year of the rabbit (aka the peeps). Then, tonight, it the red carpet treatment at the Cutters Oscar party.

Any excuse for a party.

As Brad said, we really are blessed with great community here.

Day 506: The Orangery

Saturday night was the Knoxville Men's Cotillion (worth the read, one of my fav posts). Yes, men's cotillion. It's a Knoxville Tradition and a reliably fabulous party. These folks can party.

Beforehand, Brad took me out for a romantic dinner with another Knoxville tradition, the Orangery. Neither of us had been there since this restaurant reopened last year. It was wonderful. Romantic. Lovely. Established, but still fresh and unique

The best part of an epic evening...dessert.

Wow.

I had the Chocolate Orange Crème Brûlée.

Brad had the Strawberry Shortcake.

Both were out of this world.

I love crème brûlée.

I love my husband.

I love my life.

Day 484: The Arts Emporium

Last Saturday night - they got married! Our wonderful friends Jay and Rebecca were married. Brad was in the wedding and we had a great time all weekend long. One place we really enjoyed was the Emporium, their reception site. I remember telling Rebecca about this location. I had been interested in it, but the street outside was under construction when we got married. But it was absolutely fabulous for Jay and Rebecca's absolutely fabulous reception.
Here's a little more about this wonderful space...

The Emporium Center is Knoxville’s first true arts center. Originally built in 1898, it re-opened following renovations during the summer of 2004. Located at 100 South Gay Street, the 28,000 square feet of flexible use space houses two art galleries showcasing local and regional artists, the administrative offices of the Arts & Culture Alliance, and offices for nine other arts and cultural organizations. Additionally, the building houses studio for ten individual artists and rehearsal, classroom and meeting space...

Day 481: Celbrating at Preservation Pub

Saturday night we had a lot to celebrate! Brad got a fabulous job offer on Friday. So, Saturday night, we headed out to Preservation Pub. We told a couple friends we would eb there, in case anyone want to drop by. Well, clearly my husband is pretty popular, cause about 30 people came by to congratulate him. It was so fun and we got to see the new upstairs. You can still enjoy live band from downstairs. But updatirs has got more seating and is a little quiter. It is also better for those of us who want a smoke free location.
Here's to a great night!
And here's to my husband, Brad, and his fabulous new job!

Day 480: The Flower Guy

For years, women on first dates with hopelessly romantic men in downtown Knoxville have come face to face with a dark haired stranger. He is not an urban legend. He is always there, subtlety making his presence known, even if you never know his name. (And even if he cannot be found via any internet search when you are trying to find a photo or additional content for your blog entry.)
He is the flower man. He strolls downtown Knoxville and sells roses each night. For first or second dates. For anniversaries no doubt. Or, in my case, on a random Thursday night while grabbing dinner with my husband after downtown meetings.
2 red roses=a sweet Thursday memory.

Day ???: JLK Wine Tasting

Monday night was the JLK Wine Tasting at Abode, a lovely boutique on Market Square. It was a fun evening, with our cute table! We also learned a lot - there are so many things you can think about when you serve wine, it is hard to keep it all straight.
But, here are 3 things I learned that I will definitely remember:
1. You can serve certain reds with salmon, like a Pinot Noir.
2. The fruity, peach wine we had isn't just for desserts. It would be appropriate for an appetizer.
3. Malbec is the hots trend in red wine. Malbec is spelled M.A.L.B.E.C.

So, now, i know some little wine facts - and so do my friends! Happy entertaining!

Day 225: Rooster's

I can't believe Rooster's has not made the blog until today.
I honestly can't believe how great their pizza is.
And, I really can hardly believe that we bought a house so far away from this place.
...But we are still not far. So, I am sure we'll still be by quiet often. And I am sure Josh and Alissa will be there too.

Rooster’s Bar & Grill, located at Rocky Hill, in Knoxville, TN, is Your Fun Place! Voted number one Sports Bar in Knoxville. Come watch your favorite Sporting events on one of our forty five flat screen TVs, Check out our Internet Jukebox! We want to thank the community for making us the best place to go.

Day 189: BRAVO!

It's the first Tuesday of the month, so it most be time for a Junior League meeting. And if it's time for a Junior League meeting, it is time for a post-meeting girl's night out. Tonight we are off to BRAVO! These nights out typically come with a fun special on drinks or appetizers, as well as time to meet new faces.
Brad must be jealous because BRAVO! is one of his favorites.

166: Knoxville Men's Collition

Black ties. Perfect March air. Super T revue. And lots of "chatter."
Saturday was a great night as Brad was added to the role of the Knoxville Men's Cotillion. It's one of one two Men's Cotillions in the south. When the cotillion is put together for and by the opposite sex, I noticed a few key differences:

A Girl's cotillion: Lots of time was obviously spent on the perfect curtsy
A Men's cotillion: Lots of time was obviously spent selecting a fabulous band to get the party going

A Girl's cotillion:
Everyone is talking about dresses
A Men's cotillion: Everyone is talking about "the chatter"

A Girl's cotillion: There are huddles of girls gathering together for pictures
A Men's cotillion: There are huddles of gentleman gathering together for cigars

Day 23: Baker Peters

The theme of last night...I should listen to Brad. For example, he's been trying to go to Baker Peter's Jazz Club since I moved back to Knoxville. But it had not worked out. We went and he was right. The patio, the music, the historic house. You've got to go. You've got to listen. Next time, we're going my dad!

Day 1: The Sunsphere

For me, Knoxville is full of memories and full of changes. The Sunsphere is both. East Tennessee's famous landmark was built for the World's Fair in 1982. In the 80's I played underneath it. In the 90's I wore a vintage t-shirt from Goodwill that sported it's logo. I even saw it mocked in an episode of The Simpsons.
Now, the Sunsphere has reopened. It is a great restaurant, bar, and event facility with an incredible view of Ktown. I missed Josh and Alissa's rehearsal dinner there a few weeks ago. But, to celebrate my move, Brad suggested we check it out.
Seeing Knoxville from this angle reminded me there will be exciting things to discover and rediscover - from a new Point of View!
